What We Offer

Mountains Therapy is an out-of-network, self-pay group practice. We do not participate in insurance networks or provide crisis services. Instead, we focus on helping motivated, high-functioning clients through individualized, evidence-based care.

As a Contract Psychotherapist, you’ll have:

  • Consistent referrals from a steady client base
  • Flexible scheduling that fits your availability

  • The ability to grow your caseload gradually, from 5 to 30 sessions per week
  • Support with intake coordination, billing, and secure communication
  • Freedom to work in other employment settings that do not conflict with our policies


Role Overview

You’ll provide individual, couples, and family therapy—either in person or via telehealth to adults and adolescents (depending on your experience and preference). Our ideal clinicians are self-directed, ethically grounded, and passionate about culturally responsive care.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering therapy sessions for individuals, couples, and families
  • Maintaining clear, timely clinical documentation
  • Developing personalized treatment plans and diagnoses
  • Participating in supervision or consultation as needed
  • Responding promptly to client and team communication
  • Staying current with best practices in psychotherapy


Hours:

  • Part-time: 5–30 hours per week
  • Full-time 30 + hours per week
  • Evenings and/or weekends required
  • Choose your own schedule within practice needs


Compensation

1099 Contractor


Session Rates (fee-for-service)
  • $105 per Intake, Couples, or Family Therapy Session (60 min)
  • $75 per Individual Therapy Session (45 min)
  • $25/hour for approved non-clinical work (onboarding, admin)


Paid biweekly

  • This is a contract position without benefits or licensure supervision.


Who We’re Looking For

Minimum Requirements:

  • Active, unrestricted NJ license (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PsyD, or PhD)
  • Master’s or Doctorate degree
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Dual licensure in NY (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PsyD, or PhD)


Please Note:

  • Pending licenses (LSW, CSW, LAC, etc.) are not eligible
  • Provisional license may be considered at a different rate, with supervision for licensure provided.

LICENSED MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST – ROLE OVERVIEW

This would be perfect for someone with a school or other job who has time for a side position. Looking for a licensed therapist (LCSWs or LPCs) who can work during the week, including late afternoons and/or evenings. Varied caseload of individual adults and couples, generally fairly high functioning, motivated clients.


Mountains Therapy is an out-of-network, private-pay group practice dedicated to offering high-quality, self-pay therapy services in-person in Montclair, NJ, and via telehealth in New Jersey, North Carolina, Florida, and Utah.

All clinicians hired must not be credentialed with insurance companies while working here. Clients pay out-of-pocket and may submit invoices independently for potential reimbursement, but Mountains Therapy does not bill insurance directly.


CONTRACT PSYCHOTHERAPIST – FEE-FOR-SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Provide individual, couples, and family therapy for self-pay clients referred through Mountains Therapy. Enjoy scheduling flexibility within the practice’s options, along with consistent referrals and robust practice support.

Clinicians can gradually build their caseload from part-time (5-30 sessions per week) to full-time (up to 30+ sessions per week), based on their availability and interest as the practice grows.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Part-time, fee-for-service with flexibility to grow your caseload over time
  • Availability in-person for at least 5 clinical hours per week
  • Provide in-person therapy in the office or designated locations
  • Deliver evidence-based therapy to individuals, couples, and families
  • Provide identity-affirming, culturally responsive care
  • Maintain clear, timely, compliant clinical documentation
  • Create individualized treatment plans, diagnoses, and behavioral interventions
  • Participate in individual supervision and consultation as needed
  • Respond promptly to client and team communication
  • Offer in-person and/or telehealth sessions to individuals and couples (families optional)
  • Stay current with best practices in psychotherapy and professional development
  • Free 15-minute phone consultation with prospective clients (as requested by clients)
  • Evenings and/or weekends availability
  • Clinicians may hold other employment in settings other than private practice, provided this additional work does not conflict with Mountains Therapy’s policies, ethics, or scheduling expectations Examples: Education, healthcare organizations, community agencies, or similar environments.


Our practice and therapist do not:

  • Bill insurance or participate in insurance networks
  • Offer crisis services or emergency care to clients
  • Provide out-of-session support or crisis management
  • Clients are informed that all care is provided within scheduled sessions only.
  • Provide ongoing supervision for clinicians or supervision for licensure

SUPPORT & SERVICES PROVIDED BY MOUNTAINS THERAPY

  • Referrals and marketing support
  • Intake coordination and client screening
  • Simple Practice EHR
  • HIPAA-compliant professional email
  • Client Portal for secure communication with clients
  • Billing and payments
  • Individual consultation as needed
  • Paid approved non-clinical hours ($25 for onboarding)
  • Flexible scheduling and a serene Montclair office space


LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Active, unrestricted New Jersey (NJ) license (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PsyD, or PhD)
  • Master’s or Doctorate degree
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience

Preferred License Qualifications:

  • Licensed in New York (NY) in addition to NJ (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PsyD, or PhD)


Provisionally licensed clinicians – consideration

  • Depending on experience, we may consider provisionally licensed clinicians (LSW, CSW, LAC, etc.) for this position at a lower client rate if they have a qualified supervisor at another job or outside of the practice who is providing supervision for licensure.

Not Accepting:

  • Pending licenses – Must be fully approved and active
  • Licensed professionals in North Carolina, Florida, and Utah who are unable to provide in-person sessions without their active NJ license

COMPENSATION

ACTIVE NJ LICENSES (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PsyD, OR PhD)

  • $105 per Intake session – 60-minute
  • $105 per Couples Therapy & Marriage Counseling session – 60-minute
  • $105 per Family Therapy session – 60-minute
  • $75 per Individual Therapy session – 45-minute
  • $25 per hour for approved non-clinical hours (onboarding, orientation, administrative tasks etc.)
  • Paid biweekly. Compensation applies only to direct service hours and approved non-clinical hours as outlined.


COMPENSATION

PROVISIONALLY LICENSED AND REQUIRING SUPERVISION (LSW, CSW, LAC, ETC.)

Depending on experience, we may consider a provisionally licensed clinician for this position at a lower fee-for-service rate. Supervision will be provided by an NJ-approved licensed LCSW at Mountains Therapy.

  • $95 per Intake session – 60-minute
  • $95 per Couples Therapy & Marriage Counseling session – 60-minute
  • $95 per Family Therapy session – 60-minute
  • $65 per Individual Therapy session – 45-minute
  • $25 per hour for approved non-clinical hours (onboarding, orientation, administrative tasks etc.)
  • Paid biweekly. Compensation applies only to direct service hours and approved non-clinical hours as outlined.
